The Story
This is a quality DB9 Male Connector with a solder tail package. The DB9 connector is widely used for serial communication RS232, RS485 and RS422 interfaces.
The maximum cable length for RS-232 is 50ft, but in practice depends on baud rate, cable specific capacitance and ambient noise. The table below contains some rules of thumb from testing performed by Texas Instruments years ago.
Please note: the wide solder tails on this connector will not fit the BCRobotics DB9 Breakout board.
