The Story
The M5Stack Unit PoE-P4 ESP32-P4 Controller combines Ethernet, PoE power, and rich I/O with MIPI display and camera support, built for edge computing and connected applications.
The M5Stack Unit PoE-P4 ESP32-P4 Embedded Controller is a feature-rich Ethernet and PoE-enabled development platform designed for edge computing, HMI, and connected device applications.
At its core is the ESP32-P4 SoC, featuring a dual-core 32-bit RISC-V processor running at up to 360MHz alongside a low-power core at 40MHz. It includes 16MB of Flash and 32MB of PSRAM, providing ample memory for complex applications. Networking is handled by a built-in IP101GRI Ethernet PHY, supporting reliable 10/100 Mbps communication, while onboard PoE support can deliver up to 6W of power, simplifying deployment by combining power and data over a single cable. A built-in DC-DC converter manages system power efficiently.
For multimedia and advanced interfaces, the board includes a 24-pin FPC connector for displays (supporting MIPI DSI, touch, and backlight) and another 24-pin FPC connector for cameras via MIPI CSI, enabling high-resolution display output and image capture.
Expansion options are extensive. There’s a USB Type-C host port (USB 2.0) for peripherals such as storage devices or HID inputs, alongside a second USB Type-C port supporting OTG and firmware download for development and debugging. Additional connectivity includes a Hat expansion interface, SDIO and ISP IO expansion, and a Grove connector for easy integration with sensors and modules.
The board also features practical onboard extras including an RGB status LED, an infrared transmitter circuit, and a user button for interaction and control. These features make it well suited to applications such as industrial HMI systems, PoE-powered smart terminals, vision nodes, smart home controllers, and edge AI or IoT devices.
